Christmas on Katinka

Our travel preparations for our circumnavigation of the world continue to progress and, most importantly, we are on schedule. The house has been sold, what we could not use has been disposed of, what we think we still need to be able to store, we have stored in various places. Among other things, I rented a Self-Store in Zurich. 1.36qm and 2.60m high. There are 30 moving boxes and some small things. We took the first 6 boxes to Katinka for Christmas.

So we're off to make optimum use of the storage space on the Katinka. This is not always easy and so one or the other good piece moves from one storage locker to the other until it finds its original place in the first locker. Well, that was the easier exercise, but where can we get a Christmas tree here in a hurry? Sure! quite simple, with the Indian. Here in Italy you get everything you need from the Indian. Admittedly the Indian doesn't exactly have the competence to organize a Christmas celebration and the selection of Christmas trees is also very limited, not to mention the fact that you have to do without advice completely here, but for 14€ you get a beautifully symmetrically grown Nordmann fir, of course made of plastic, which increases the reusability to infinity. And in the age of online ordering, the advice is overrated anyway. In any case, we are very satisfied with our Christmas tree. Immediately we sat down to decorate it festively and make ourselves comfortable on our Katinka. We spent our first Christmas Eve on the boat with Panetone and red wine in a very cosy atmosphere. The chain of lights that I had wrapped around the tree and stretched over the cockpit also contributed to our well-being.

Since our house clearance had had a strong influence on us, we completely renounced gifts this year, which opened the horizon for more important things. Despite high temperatures during the day, it cools down quite a bit in the evening and at night, so that a well functioning heating system is a good thing that should not be underestimated. Our Eberspächer Airtronic D4 works without any problems so far, which contributes a lot to the cosiness in the salon. We hope it stays that way. Beside the on-board work we still find time for some smaller excursions. So we sat down on our small folding bikes and drove at 20°C to Albenga. The small town is located exactly opposite the island Gallinara, which we passed on our arrival in 2017. The Fiume Centa, a 3km long river, flows here into the Mediterranean Sea. In Albenga itself, as well as on the Ligurian coast, there is much less activity during the winter months than in summer. This makes the coast much more pleasant, as one is more welcome in many places than in the hectic months. Now that we have Christmas behind us, we are looking forward to the next celebration, namely our first New Year's Eve on the Katinka and to an eventful year 2019.
