Back to the future

Take it easy

Even the most adverse work is done here, on Carriacou, with a smile. It takes time, but with a German work mentality you will only be met with incomprehension, and besides, the smile on your face should never be missing. "Take it easy" is the motto here "and pay your bill". So my facial muscle training in the morning on the toilet may seem grotesque to one or the other, but on the one hand no one sees me, and on the other hand it conjures up a gentle, understanding smile on my face, which signals to my counterpart, everything is easy.

Always smile

In the meantime, we have reassembled the hydraulic system as far as it goes. The screws are currently stuck at customs and when they will come out is written in the stars. We are getting used to the motto "Take it easy". But the work doesn't stop and so we deal with other things, like our water supply, which always leaked a little at the pressure equalization valve. I remove the valve and find that a gasket was installed incorrectly. With the correct installation, the pressurized water system, after five years, is working properly for the first time. So, "take it easy." To compensate, we adapt to the lifestyle and dive into the nightlife of Carriacou.

Nightlife in Carriacou

The Corona numbers have increased drastically in Grenada since the holidays, but no one is really interested. The vaccination rate is just 5%, which is close to a total refusal in the population. As a foreigner you have to be vaccinated twice if you want to enter Grenada. This is probably for self-protection. Every now and then a beach bar has closed for unfathomable reasons, suggesting that a Corona case has been discovered there. Last week it hit the supermarket, which was closed for a week. Still, life goes on reasonably normally here and everyone Take it.... We sit in the Crazy Beach Bar, everyone just says CBC. In the background, the waves are breaking softly on the beach. The drummer is settling in and the bass player is just coming down the garden path to say hello to everyone. Gaby says, "They could so start taking down the Christmas lights again." Except it's not noticeable at all in the bar. The furnishings are crudely cobbled together from wood and brightly painted. Bright red, bright yellow, and the main color the shutters and doors are painted is azure. A brick staircase landing leads to the actual bar and lounge area. The wall of the house is painted white and someone has painted a funny pelican on it. Below is a terrace that overlooks Tyrell Bay, and from which you can see beautiful sunsets.

Tyrell Bay, Carriacou

In the meantime, the guitarist and the singer have also arrived and they start, as every Wednesday and Saturday. Of course Reggea music, I think what else they can not play here. Anyway, we let ourselves be taken away by the music and in the face the satisfied smile and the feeling "Take it easy", sets in again. On Monday we are now again four weeks on Carriacou. Slowly we get used to our snail's pace, which we put on the day. At least it helps us to get to know the country and the people intensively. Which reminds me that we have to extend our residence permit next week. But this week Didier and Dominique from the sailing yacht Ka Ora are coming to Tyrell Bay. We met them in French Guyana, Dominique's birthday is on Saturday, which we want to celebrate together. The Ka Ora sailed from French Guyana to Grenada and is back in the water since Wednesday, after a short stay in the shipyard. We are looking forward to seeing her again. We have also completed the statistics for the year 2021. According to this, the data are as follows:
